Snow White and the fall of woke Disney

This doomed remake has exposed the idiocy of PC.

Topics Culture Identity Politics Polemics

Snow White, the live-action remake of the Disney children’s classic, has been a spectacular flop. It’s been panned by critics and shunned at the box office and is currently headed for a $115million loss. Where did it all go wrong? In a word: wokeness. The film’s star, Rachel Zegler, slammed the source material as misogynistic. There was a never-ending row about the seven dwarves, who should play them and whether or not they should be called dwarves at all. (In the end, they settled on ‘magical creatures’.) This doomed remake became a comical example of how identity politics has corrupted entertainment in general and Disney in particular, which has made a string of terrible – and terribly received – films and TV shows of late. Here, Lauren Smith walks you through the controversy, positing Disney as the case study in why going woke means going broke. Watch, share and subscribe to our YouTube channel.
