Britain used to build things. It gave the world the Industrial Revolution, the steam engine, the world’s first underground railway. Fast forward to today, and our transport system is barely functioning, energy prices are through the roof and homeownership is a distant fantasy for many. As Lauren Smith explains in this latest video polemic, Britain is being held back by a combination of NIMBYism and green insanity, making it impossible to build anything cheaply. Or much at all. Meanwhile, vast amounts of time and resources are spent on underwater soundsystems or £100million ‘bat tunnels’ to protect tiny numbers of wildlife.
